This is a picture of the Hackberry General Store on historic U.S. Route 66 in Arizona.
Prior to Interstate 40 opening in Arizona, various service stations in Hackberry serviced US Route 66 travelers. All were shut down after the highway bypassed the town. The Northside Grocery which was established in 1934 and its Conoco station were among the last to close, in 1978.
In 1992, the store was re-opened as the Hackberry General Store. It served as a Route 66 tourism information post and souvenir shop. The store remains in operation today with a collection of vintage cars from the heyday of Route 66 in Arizona.
After a 24 year career with a large east coast computer company, I retired from the corporate world and in 2003 moved to Phoenix, Arizona with my wife. Fortunately, the Southwest is a mecca of photographic opportunities, so with my camera in tow, my wife and I take every opportunity to take advantage of it. All photography Copyright Fred Larson. How can you not love this classic C1 Corvette? I love Corvettes and this image is fantastic! I wish my husband and I went here when we vacationed in Arizona in 2012. Next time we visit Arizona.. I'm going no matter what! Congrats on your features!
Fred Larson replied:
Thanks Trish! You could miss this place if you are not careful. The inside looks pretty much like the outside.
